introduction

Hi I'm Rob!

So you've found my little blog space, welcome! I'm sure already have at least three questions:

1) Who are you?

I was trying to think of a way answer this; however, I think that anyone trying to describe themselves runs the risk of being inaccurate. We all have an idea of the type of person we are in our head, but is our ideal self an accurate descriptor of who we are? So, what I have decided to do (it came to me randomly one morning while I was brushing my teeth, so I didn't think it entirely through) is ask my friends to anonymously submit Yelp-style reviews of me. Who knows us better than our friends (well hopefully ourselves, but meh)? Hopefully it will give you some insight into who I am and what I'm like. Here they are:

"5/5 Stars - Good man."

"5/5 Stars - A happy, upbeat dude. I'd trust him to give me a haircut."

"5/5 Stars - Rob is a wonderful and thoughtful person. He puts a tremendous effort into making his friends feel loved and included."

"5/5 Stars - WTF"

"5/5 Stars - Honestly, I think you're an 11 out of 10 in every department. I've watched you grow so much from that awkward highschooler still trying to figure out what makes him happy and who he is to this confident personable hiker who is going after what he loves in every aspect of life! Food included πŸ˜‚. You have helped me through some of the toughest moments of my life and I love our life chats! You are one of the best friends I was given by blood!!!! #endsappypost"

"5/5 Stars - You are prime."

"5/5 Stars - 🐼🐼🐼"

"5/5 Stars - You rock."

"5/5 Stars - Always friendly, but super sassy."

"5/5 Stars - Really personable and congenial; imagine he makes friends with pretty much everyone he meets."

"5/5 Stars - You go girl."

"5/5 Stars - Smart. Excellent organization skills. Hardworking. Determined. Takes the initiative. Friendly."

"5/5 Stars - He rocks!"

"5/5 Stars - Rob is good. Rob is great."

"5/5 Stars - He is a panda."

"5/5 Stars - Rob is a model student, friend, and brother. He has taught me to be a better person through his example :)"

"5/5 Stars - You're so sweet and funny, and you're a really great friend. I secretly look up to you a lot and you inspire me to be a better person."

"5/5 Stars - He's kind and beautiful."

"5/5 Stars - Cool dude 10/10."

2) Why are you doing this?

It began as me simply wanting to make a personal website to display and share what I do. Then, I decided that I wanted to add on this blog section to express and talk about my other interests. So, I'm hoping to share both material related to my research/academics and then also things that have been on my mind.

3) Why 'Perspective is Everything'?

Our perspective is the angle at which we look upon a subject. This angle affects our perception of the subject: how we understand, interpret, and approach it. Our perception can completely change by changing our perspective. I believe that an important part of being a scientist (or just simply human, to be honest) is being able to see problems from multiple perspectives.

When trying to solve complex problems, progress often results from diverse perspectives.
